The number of registered victims of sexual violence in relation to the armed conflict in Colombia has jumped fivefold in the past 5 years. Given the former FARC’s increasingly documented record of sexual abuse, the discussion has taken centre stage in national politics. With local elections slated for October, the President and his party are trying to take advantage of mounting public outrage over sexual abuse.
