{"id":109067,"date":"2022-11-20T14:58:03","date_gmt":"2022-11-20T13:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/109067-ukraine-denies-its-forces-executed-russian-prisoners-official.html"},"modified":"2022-11-20T14:58:03","modified_gmt":"2022-11-20T13:58:03","slug":"ukraine-denies-its-forces-executed-russian-prisoners-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/109067-ukraine-denies-its-forces-executed-russian-prisoners-official.html","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine denies its forces executed Russian prisoners: official"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n             The Ukrainian parliament's commissioner for human rights on Sunday denied Kyiv's forces had killed Russian prisoners of war, arguing that Ukraine's soldiers were defending themselves against Russians who feigned surrender.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Videos circulated on Russian social media this week purporting to show the bodies of Russian servicemen killed after surrendering to Ukrainian troops.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said \"excerpts\" of a video showed that Russians \"using a staged capture... committed a war crime by opening fire on the Ukrainian Armed Forces\".\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            This means the soldiers \"cannot be considered prisoners of war\", he argued.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            \"Those who want to use the protection of international law to kill must be punished,\" he added.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            One video circulating on Russian social media shows soldiers apparently surrendering to several military personnel in camouflage and wearing yellow armbands.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The troops giving themselves up lie down on the ground in the debris-filled backyard of a house.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The video abruptly cuts off as shots are heard.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Another video filmed from above shows the bodies of around a dozen people surrounded by apparent blood stains.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            AFP has not independently confirmed the videos.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The Russian defence ministry said on Friday the videos showed the \"deliberate and methodical murder of more than 10 restrained Russian soldiers\".\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            It called for an investigation into \"war crimes\".\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned \"the merciless shooting of unarmed Russian\" prisoners and demanded that \"international organisations condemn and thoroughly investigate this shocking crime\".\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            A UN spokesperson told AFP on Friday it was \"aware of the videos\" and \"looking into them\".<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ukrainian parliament's commissioner for human rights on Sunday denied Kyiv's forces had killed Russian prisoners of war, arguing that Ukraine's soldiers were defending themselves against Russians who feigned surrender.
