There were many objections after the decision by the UN Mechanism<\/a> in charge of trying Rwandan genocide suspect F\u00e9licien Kabuga to continue the trial through an undefined and unprecedented \u201calternative procedure\u201d although he has been declared unfit. Our partners at Asymmetrical Haircuts summed up the reactions after the June 6 decision \u2013 which is now under appeal. \u00ab\u00a0My instinct was that it is absurd as a solution,\u201d says the main guest of the podcast Lucy Gaynor, a historian and PHD Researcher at University of Amsterdam and NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies. One of the very few devoted observers of Kabuga\u2019s trial, Gaynor goes through the \u201cacrobatic reasoning\u201d of the UN judges. She fears it ends up being \u201ca trial masquerading as a truth commission. And therefore will it actually benefit either law or history?
