Sweden is putting on trial two former chief executives of the oil company Lundin for their alleged complicity in war crimes in Sudan. Facts date back to more than 20 years when the Swedish oil company secured a production site and paid Sudan\u2019s government forces and militias to protect it. Thousands of people died, hundreds of thousands were displaced, atrocity crimes were committed. The Lundin trial<\/a> starts on September 5 and is expected to be the longest in the country\u2019s history. Why did it take so long to get there in the first place? What is this case about and what victims may actually get from it \u2013 or not? The Lundin trial is also of international resonance as it is extremely unusual for top executives of a well-established corporation to be prosecuted in relation to war crimes.
