\n US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel on Friday at the start of a new regional tour, telling reporters before leaving that he would seek \"concrete steps\" from Israel to minimise harm to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.\n<\/p>\n
\n A group of UN-mandated human rights experts said Thursday \"time is running out to prevent genocide and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza\", which Israel called Hamas \"propaganda\".\n<\/p>\n
\n Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan also called for an immediate ceasefire, saying \"crimes against humanity\" were being committed in Gaza, and that Ankara was pushing for an international peace conference.\n<\/p>\n
\n - Troops encircle Gaza City -\n<\/p>\n
\n Fresh Israeli strikes hit northern Gaza on Friday, with the health ministry reporting at least 15 deaths in Gaza City's Zeitun neighbourhood and seven in the Jabalia refugee camp.\n<\/p>\n
\n Late on Thursday, the army said troops had encircled Gaza City, with Hamas militants warning Gaza would be a \"curse\" for Israel whose soldiers would go home \"in black bags\".\n<\/p>\n
\n On Friday morning, the militants said they were engaged in close combat with troops northwest of Beit Lahia and had fired missiles at Israeli military vehicles.\n<\/p>\n
\n - Israel deports workers back to Gaza -\n<\/p>\n
\n Israel on Friday sent back thousands of Gazans who had been working in Israel when the war erupted.\n<\/p>\n
\n Gaza crossings authority head Hisham Adwan told AFP \"thousands of workers\" had been sent back, with AFPTV footage showing them arriving through Karem Abu Salem crossing in southern Gaza, which is normally only used for goods.\n<\/p>\n
\n Before the war, 18,500 Gazans had Israeli work permits, according to Israel's defence ministry.\n<\/p>\n
\n The UN human rights office said it was \"deeply concerned\" about the move.\n<\/p>\n
\n \"They are being sent back, we don't know exactly to where\" and whether they \"even have a home to go to\", spokeswoman Elizabeth Throssell said.\n<\/p>\n
\n - Israeli victims' families file ICC case -\n<\/p>\n
\n The families of nine Israeli victims of the October 7 attacks have lodged a war crimes complaint against Hamas at the International Criminal Court, their lawyer said Friday.\n<\/p>\n
\n They also want Hamas prosecuted for genocide, lawyer Francois Zimeray said, confirming his team had established that the \"genocide\" allegation \"holds up before the law\".\n<\/p>\n
\n Any individual can bring a case to the ICC, but it is up to the ICC prosecutor to launch an investigation.\n<\/p>\n
\n - Hezbollah chief to speak -\n<\/p>\n
\n Hassan Nasrallah, head of Lebanon's Hezbollah, is to give his first speech since the Israel-Hamas war began on Friday, in a widely-anticipated address that will begin at 3:00 pm (1300 GMT) and which could impact the region.\n<\/p>\n
\n There have been escalating tit-for-tat exchanges along the Israel-Lebanon border, with Israel saying late Thursday its troops had responded with a \"broad assault\" after Hezbollah said it had attacked 19 Israeli positions simultaneously.
