{"id":128716,"date":"2024-02-22T21:53:02","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T20:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/128716-uruguay-ex-intelligence-agent-jailed-for-dictatorship-torture.html"},"modified":"2024-02-22T21:53:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T20:53:02","slug":"uruguay-ex-intelligence-agent-jailed-for-dictatorship-torture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/128716-uruguay-ex-intelligence-agent-jailed-for-dictatorship-torture.html","title":{"rendered":"Uruguay ex-intelligence agent jailed for dictatorship torture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n             A former Uruguay intelligence agent has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for crimes against humanity committed during the South American country's brutal dictatorship of 1973 to 1985, a court document showed Thursday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Jorge Carlos Guldenzoph Nunez, 70, was found guilty of torture committed as part of \"a systematic and coordination plan of persecuting opponents of the regime\", according to the court ruling dated February 15 obtained by AFP.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Nunez, a.k.a \"Chatty\" had \"participated in the arrest, interrogation and extraction of confessions under torture\" of dissidents, according to the indictment.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Nunez has been on trial since July 2020 from prison, time spent that will be deducted from his sentence.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Some 50 survivors had told the court of torments they had suffered, including electric shocks, beatings and rape.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The victims' lawyer Pablo Chargonia welcomed the end of a long process that has helped to reveal \"the horror lived\" by people during the dictatorship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Uruguay intelligence agent has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for crimes against humanity committed during the South American country's brutal dictatorship of 1973 to 1985, a court document showed Thursday.
