Ukraine\u2019s parliament\u2019s ratification comes as a surprise to many, not because it hasn\u2019t been on the cards, but because it just \u2018happened\u2019 so quickly rather than being \u2013 again \u2013 debated endlessly, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/jura.ku.dk\/english\/staff\/research\/?pure=en%2Fpersons%2Firyna-marchuk(2c0f972c-470e-4a96-bab2-06f144aea161).html\">Iryna Marchuk<\/a>, associate professor of international and criminal law at Copenhagen University and a guest of the podcast.\u00a0She explains Ukraine\u2019s road to ratification. However, Ukraine has invoked Article 124\u00a0of the Rome Statute. Marchuk goes into the contentious domestic reasons behind the inclusion of this provision and how it would potentially protect Ukraine\u2019s armed forces from prosecution under ICC rules for seven years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A month ago, the Ukrainian army also <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-kursk-incursion-bridge-invasion-43d6579c82c24ffc5cfabd99d07c66db\">took the war into Russian territory<\/a>.
