{"id":15513,"date":"2008-07-18T13:05:35","date_gmt":"2008-07-18T11:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/15513-en-en-170708-ictrmilitary-ii-two-trials-adjourned-for-lack-of-witnesses62796279.html"},"modified":"2008-07-18T13:05:35","modified_gmt":"2008-07-18T11:05:35","slug":"en-en-170708-ictrmilitary-ii-two-trials-adjourned-for-lack-of-witnesses62796279","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/15513-en-en-170708-ictrmilitary-ii-two-trials-adjourned-for-lack-of-witnesses62796279.html","title":{"rendered":"17.07.08 - ICTR\/MILITARY II - TWO TRIALS ADJOURNED FOR LACK OF WITNESSES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p  >\nArusha, 17 July, 2008 (FH) \u2013 Two different joint trials involving seven accused persons have been prematurely adjourned at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to mid next month for lack of defence witnesses and the mid-year judicial recess.<br \/>\nIn the so called \u201cMilitary II Trial\u201d which was adjourned Wednesday, Major Francois-Xavier Nzuwonemeye, former Commander of the Reconnaissance Battalion ran short of witnesses after presenting 15 of them for his defence.\n<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p  >\nWhen it resumes 8 September, the accused will continue presenting the remaining 20 defence witnesses.<br \/>\nMajor Nzuwonemeye\u2019s Deputy Commander, Captain Innocent Sagahatu will be next on line to start his defence.<br \/>\nOther defendants in the case who have already presented their cases are: former Chiefs of Staff of the Army, General Augustin Bizimungu and that of the gendarmerie national, General Augustin Ndindiliyimana.<br \/>\nAnother case which was postponed Tuesday was that of the three former leaders of MRND party during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The case was adjourned when the accused Edouard Karemera, former Vice President of MRND had already fielded seven witnesses for his defence out the expected 65.
