The Kamuhanda trial will continue with the testimony of defence witnesses after the judicial break which began on December 13, 2002.\n<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p  >\nIt is scheduled to proceed until February 20th. The case was adjourned on September 12, 2002 after the testimony of seven defence witnesses. This trial started on April 17th, 2000 but had to be restarted in September, 2001, following the death of former presiding judge and ICTR president Laity Kama on May 6th. Kamuhanda is charged with nine counts including genocide, complicity in genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, including rape and murder. These crimes were allegedly committed in his native Gikomero commune (Kigali province, central Rwanda). He has denied all charges. Trial Chamber II is composed of Judges William Hussein Sekule of Tanzania (presiding), Arlette Ramaroson (Madagascar) and Winston Churchhill Matanzima Maqutu (Lesotho).
