Paris, 7 February 2008 (FH) - The Investigation Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Paris rejected Wednesday a new request for the release of the Rwandan Dominique Ntawukuriryayo and will decide on 20 February for his possible transfer to the Arusha-based International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).

\nNtawukuriryayo, sub-prefect of Gisagara, southern Rwanda, is accused of having taken part in the1994 genocide. According to UN estimates about 800,000 Tutsis and ethnic Hutus were killed in the April-July massacres.<\/p>\n
A first ruling by the investigation chamber which ordered the transfer of Mr Ntawukuriryayo to the ICTR was quashed on 16 January by the Final Court of Appeal due to legal errors.<\/p>\n
Ntawukuriryayo, 66, arrived in France in 1999.<\/p>\n
He was arrested on 16 October 2007 in Carcassonne, Aude, under an arrest warrant issued by ICTR.<\/p>\n
