Paris, 28 February 2008 (FH) - The lawyers for Dominique Ntawukuriryayo, a former Deputy Rwandan Governor , last week filed an appeal with the Final Court of Appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal of Paris which early this month authorized his transfer to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), where he is wanted for genocide.
\nThe criminal division of the Final Court of Appeal will examine his appeal on 9 April. Ntawukuriryayo was deputy governor in Gisagara, Butare province, southern Rwanda.<\/p>\n
On 16 January, the highest legal jurisdiction in France annulled, due to legal errors, the ruling by the investigative division of the Court of Appeal of
\nParis, which had decided in favour of the transfer of this Rwandan national to the ICTR.<\/p>\n
The investigative division, with a different composition, ordered on 14 February his transfer to Arusha.<\/p>\n
Mr. Ntawukuriryayo, born in 1942, was arrested in France on 21 September, where he resided since 1999, He was arrested under a warrant issued by the ICTR.<\/p>\n
An appeal with the Final Court of Appeal, the last possible recourse after an appeal judgment, relates only to procedure and legal provisions.<\/p>\n
