{"id":20818,"date":"2008-11-25T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-25T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/20818-en-en-251108-rwandagacaca-gacaca-appeals-court-sentences-man-29-to-15-years-jail1162511625.html"},"modified":"2008-11-25T02:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-25T01:00:00","slug":"en-en-251108-rwandagacaca-gacaca-appeals-court-sentences-man-29-to-15-years-jail1162511625","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/20818-en-en-251108-rwandagacaca-gacaca-appeals-court-sentences-man-29-to-15-years-jail1162511625.html","title":{"rendered":"25.11.08 - RWANDA\/GACACA - GACACA: APPEALS COURT SENTENCES MAN (29) TO 15 YEARS JAIL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nKigali, 25 November 2008 (FH) - Jean-Bosco Rurangwa, 29, prosecuted for crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity, was sentenced to 15 years jail on Sunday by Appellate Court of Nyakabanda, a district in Kigali, reports Hirondelle Agency.\n<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\nThe court found the guilty plea, the repentance and the pardon request inadmissible and found Rurangwa guilty of having killed a man named Gasongo and having inflicted an inhuman treatment to his corpse, and thus sentences him to a sentence of 15 years in prison, with civic degradation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe defendant, who was 14 years old at the time of the event, had already been sentenced for the same crimes to five years in prison, in mid-July by the court of the Nyakabanda sector. &quot;I appealed, because the court seems not to have taken into account my guilty plea&quot;, he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAccording to several witnesses, Rurangwa, reported on in 2003 by neighbours as he occupied an administrative position in his village, had been obligated at the time to publicly recognize his crimes during the genocide. &quot;That is not part of the plea, repentance and pardon procedure&quot;, explained the court after the hearing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe 15 years in prison is the maximum sentence for minors under the Gacaca regulations, a semi-traditional justice system.
