\nArusha, 25 August 2009 (FH) - The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) has ordered the former sub-prefect, Dominique Ntawukulilyayo, to reduce his list of witnesses, reports Hirondelle Agency.\n<\/p>\n

\nAccused of genocide and of direct and public incitement to commit genocide, Ntawukulilyayo who has claimed his innocence, was sub-prefect of Gisagara, in the Butare prefecture, southern Rwanda.\n<\/p>\n
\nAn order posted on the ICTR website, the Chamber presided by Pakistani Judge Khalida Rachid Khan was astonished that the defence planned to call 30 witnesses against the 12 called by the prosecutor.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe judges considered that the defendant's witnesses as an excessive number.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe trial began on 6 May and the prosecutor rested his case 20 days later.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe defence is scheduled to open its case on 14 September and stretch to 9 October.\n<\/p>\n
\nNtawukulilyayo was arrested on 16 October 2007 in Carcassonne, south-western France, on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the ICTR on 21 September of the same year.\n<\/p>\n
