\nArusha, 25 September 2009 (FH) - Germany has offered to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) a grant of $ 240,000 to sensitize the youths of the African Great Lakes region on the role of the UN Tribunal to fight the culture of impunity.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe agreement to this effect was signed on Friday at the headquarters of the ICTR in Arusha between the German Ambassador to Tanzania, Guido Herz, and the ICTR Registrar, Adama Dieng, according to the Tribunal's press release.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe agreement was signed during a one-day visit by representatives of eight Western countries known as "Friends of ICTR".\n<\/p>\n
\nThe delegation held discussions with the high ranking ICTR officials, including the President of the Tribunal, Justice Dennis Byron.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe discussions were related to the necessary co-operation of the U.N. member states for the arrest of the 12 remaining fugitives still at large. The UN Security Council has directed that all first instance trials must be completed by next year.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe delegation also visited the United Nations Detention Facility, on the outskirts of Arusha town.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe group of the ‘'Friends of ICTR'' based in Tanzania included: Paul Jansen, Ambassador of Belgium; Robert Orr, High Commissioner of Canada; Guido Herz, Ambassador of Germany; Francesco Catania, Ambassador of Italy; Diane Corner, High Commissioner of United Kingdom; Sylvie Massiere, Deputy Head of Mission of France; Clemens Hach, Deputy Head of Mission of Germany; Monique Korzelius, Political Officer of Netherlands and H.E. Stephanie Hutchison, Political Officer of the U.S.A.\n<\/p>\n
