\nKigali, January 27, 2010 (FH) - Marie Mukamana, a genocide survivor from Gatsibo district (Eastern Rwanda), escaped an arson Monday night, Radio Rwanda reported on Tuesday.\n<\/p>\n

\nIt was about midnight when the fire woke up Marie Mukamana, who just had time enough to flee the house without any of her belongings, despite her neighbours' efforts to assist her.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nTen suspects were arrested afterwards and remanded in custody. Most of them had already been convicted to give back assets they had looted during the genocide.\n<\/p>\n
\nOn January 4, two young brothers from Gatsibo district were killed in a grenade attack while their father, a genocide survivor, remained unharmed.\n<\/p>\n

\nAccording to Ibuka, the umbrella organization of genocide survivors, twenty-six genocide survivors were murdered in 2009 in Rwanda. Nine women and several children are said to be among the victims, who were allegedly drowned, cut into pieces, beheaded or blown up by hand grenades.\n<\/p>\n
