\nKigali, February 18, 2010 (FH) - Rwanda's Prosecutor General has entered negotiations with South African judicial authorities to obtain the extradition of a Rwandan medical doctor and his spouse, both condemned in absentia for their role in the 1994 genocide.\n<\/p>\n

\nAccording to Radio Rwanda, Dr. Pierre Mugabo and his wife Félicité Musanganire have been sentenced respectively to 30 years and 25 years in jail by a Gacaca court in Butare (South of Rwanda).\n<\/p>\n
\nPierre Mugabo was found guilty of identifying Tutsi patients at the University Hospital of Butare and of handing them over to killers. His wife is held responsible of selecting Tutsis at a roadblock in downtown Butare.\n<\/p>\n
\nBoth are targeted by international arrest warrants issued by the Rwandan justice.\n<\/p>\n
\nA former professor of pharmacology at the Butare Faculty of Medicine, Mugabo is currently working in the pharmacology department of South Africa's University of the Western Cape.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe fact that no extradition treaty has been signed between Rwandan and South Africa should not hinder the extradition of the two convicted, a source from the Prosecutor's Office told Hirondelle News Agency.\n<\/p>\n
