{"id":22803,"date":"2010-10-19T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/22803-en-en-191010-ictrnzabonimana-nzabonimanas-trial-adjourned-to-february-next-year1361013610.html"},"modified":"2010-10-19T02:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-10-19T00:00:00","slug":"en-en-191010-ictrnzabonimana-nzabonimanas-trial-adjourned-to-february-next-year1361013610","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/22803-en-en-191010-ictrnzabonimana-nzabonimanas-trial-adjourned-to-february-next-year1361013610.html","title":{"rendered":"19.10.10 - ICTR\/NZABONIMANA - NZABONIMANA'S TRIAL ADJOURNED TO FEBRUARY NEXT YEAR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arusha, October 19, 2010 (FH) - The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) Tuesday adjourned the trial of genocide-accused and former Rwandan Youth Minister Callixte Nzabonimana to February 28, next year.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p >\n<p >\n<p >\nCo-counsel for the defendant, Philippe Larochelle, told Hirondelle News Agency that he called four witnesses in this session, which stated on October 11, bringing a total of 29 witnesses who have so far testified for Nzabonimana since he opened his defence case on April 14, 2010.&nbsp; &nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p >\n<p >\nAccording to him, the next session would end on March 25, 2011 and they are expecting to call about 10 more as their last witnesses.\n<\/p>\n<p >\n<p >\nThe trial took off on November 9, 2009 and the prosecution concluded its case on April 13, 2010 after fielding 19 witnesses.\n<\/p>\n<p >\n<p >\nNzabonimana is facing five charges of genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, extermination and murder. He has denied the charges.\n<\/p>\n<p >\n<p >\nHe allegedly played an important role in the massacres of Tutsis in his native prefecture of Gitarama, central Rwanda. He was an active member of the then ruling party, MRND, at his prefecture and the national level.&nbsp; &nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p >\n<p >\nThe accused was arrested in the western part of Tanzania on February 18, 2008.
