Arusha, February 15, 2011 (FH) - The Prosecution in the trial of two formers leading members of the MRND before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) has requested the deadline for the submission of its final brief to be postponed for a month.

\nThe Chamber has not rendered its decision yet.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nIn his request, an American member of the Prosecution Office, Don Webster, asked the deadline to be remitted from May 2 to June 2.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nAccording to the Tribunal's initial timeline, Matthieu Ngirumpatse's defence was slated to wind up its proceedings in January. It is now scheduled to end on February 18.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nThe case of the other defendant in this joint trial, Edouard Karemera, has already been presented.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nA court ruling issued on November 30, 2010, ordered each accused to file a final brief of less than 53,000 words while the Prosecution was given 73,000 words.\n<\/p>\n
\nAs of yet, no date has been set for the hearing of the closing arguments.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nNgirumpatse and Karemera are charged with genocide and crimes against humanity. They allegedly conspired with other top civil and military officials to perpetrate the 1994 genocide.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nTheir trial began in September 2005.\n<\/p>\n
