\nArusha, April 21, 2011 (FH) -The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) Wednesday adjourned to May 3, 2011, defence hearing of former Rwandan Mayor Grégoire Ndahimana, as the chamber was going for one week Easter recess.\n<\/p>\n

\nBefore the adjournment, Presiding Judge Florence Rita Arrey reminded the defence to abide by the schedule of closing its case on May 13, 2011. The defendant's lead counsel Chadha Bharat assured the Trial Chamber that they would manage to call all the remaining witnesses as scheduled.\n<\/p>\n
\n
\nFive witnesses, including the accused, have remained to testify in the trial. Ndahimana, former Mayor of Kivumu Commune in Kibuye prefecture (Western Rwanda, has already called 26 witnesses to testify in his favour. \n<\/p>\n
\nNdahimana is charged with genocide or complicity in genocide, in the alternative and extermination, as a crime against humanity following massacres of Tutsi refugees at Nyange Church in his commune. It is alleged that more than 2000 Tutsi refugees were killed at the church when they were attacked on April 15 and 16, 1994.\n<\/p>\n
