ICC\/DRC - PROSECUTOR FILES NEW APPLICATION FOR ARREST OF GENERAL MUDACUMURA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hague, June 14, 2012 (FH) \u2013The prosecution at the International Criminal Court (ICC) has filed a new application for arrest warrant against Rwandese rebel leader, General Sylvestre Mudacumura, for crimes against humanity and war crimes, a Wednesday statement said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mudacumura is the field commander of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) whose leaders are believed to have taken part in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ICC statement, the office of the Prosecutor submitted an amended application for the arrest of Mucadumura for five counts of crimes against humanity and nine others relating to war crimes, in particular for murder, rape and torture.<\/p>\n<p>Such offences are alleged to have been committed by the rebels between 20 January 2009 and 31 August 2010, in North and South Kivu Provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Prosecution considers that Mudacumura is Supreme Commander of the FDLR-FOCA, one of the most active militias in the Kivu Provinces of the DRC, and is allegedly responsible for a campaign of violence targeting civilians in these provinces,\u201d the statement reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The filing of the new application follows ICC Judges\u2019 decision of May 31, 2012, to dismiss the previous one after considering that it \u201cfell short of the proper level of specificity\u201d in describing the alleged crimes \u201cfor which the person\u2019s arrest is sought\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>ICC judges have already issued one arrest warrant for Bosco Ntaganda, leader of the National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) militia, another armed group, active in the Kivu provinces and on May 14, 2012, the prosecution sought to add new charges against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FK\/NI\/GF<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hague, June 14, 2012 (FH) \u2013The prosecution at the International Criminal Court (ICC) has filed a new application for arrest warrant against Rwandese rebel leader, General Sylvestre Mudacumura, for crimes against humanity and war crimes, a Wednesday statement said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":64,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[555],"tags":[],"ji_location":[],"class_list":["post-24468","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hirondellenews"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.3.1 (Yoast SEO v25.3.1) -
