{"id":24477,"date":"2012-06-18T15:57:19","date_gmt":"2012-06-18T13:57:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/24477-180612-iccgaddafi-un-security-council-urges-libya-to-release-icc-staff-members.html"},"modified":"2012-06-18T15:57:19","modified_gmt":"2012-06-18T13:57:19","slug":"180612-iccgaddafi-un-security-council-urges-libya-to-release-icc-staff-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/24477-180612-iccgaddafi-un-security-council-urges-libya-to-release-icc-staff-members.html","title":{"rendered":"18.06.12 - ICC\/GADDAFI \u2013 UN SECURITY COUNCIL URGES LIBYA TO RELEASE ICC STAFF MEMBERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hague, June 18 2012 (FH) - The United Nations Security Council has urged Libyan authorities to work towards the immediate release of four detained staff members of the International Criminal Court (ICC), who have been detained in Libya since June 7.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Australian lawyer Melinda Taylor and her colleagues were arrested on accusations of smuggling documents to Muammar Gaddafi's detained son, Saif al-Islam, who has been indicted by the court for crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n<p>UN \u201curge Libyan authorities at all levels and all concerned to work towards immediate release of all the ICC staff members\u201d, read a statement released on June 15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the legal obligation of Libya\u2026 to cooperate fully with and provide any necessary assistance to the ICC pursuant to that resolution\u201d, it added.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, Libyan deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Abdel Aziz claimed that Libyan authorities were \u201cfully committed to solving this problem speedily but what we need is cooperation of the International criminal court\u201d. He added that they would be \u201cmore than happy to even have a joint investigation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Libyan authorities have so far refused to hand Saif al-Islam over to the court, arguing that he should be judged on the Libyan soil.
