{"id":24573,"date":"2012-09-04T19:05:58","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T17:05:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/24573-040912-iccdrc-bembas-party-leaders-confident-in-trials-outcome.html"},"modified":"2012-09-04T19:05:58","modified_gmt":"2012-09-04T17:05:58","slug":"040912-iccdrc-bembas-party-leaders-confident-in-trials-outcome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/24573-040912-iccdrc-bembas-party-leaders-confident-in-trials-outcome.html","title":{"rendered":"04.09.12 - ICC\/DRC - BEMBA\u2019S PARTY LEADERS CONFIDENT IN TRIAL\u2019S OUTCOME"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kinshasa, September 4, 2012 (FH) - Jean-Lucien Busa, the deptuy general-secretary of Jean-Pierre Bemba\u2019s political party is \u201cconfident\u201d that Bemba\u2019s trial will have a positive outcome, Radio Okapi reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Bemba, the president and commander-in-chief of the \u201cMouvement de Lib\u00e9ration du Congo\u201d and former vice-president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is charged with crimes against humanity (murder and rape) and war crimes (murder, rape and pillaging) allegedly committed in the Central African Republic in 2002-2003.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMLC leaders are confident that Jean-Pierre Bemba will be freed and rejoin us as soon as possible\u201d, Busa declared.<\/p>\n<p>MLC is one of the main opposition parties in DRC. \u201cCongolese all know that MLC troops went to the CAR because they had been invited to do so by a government democratically elected\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Lusaka agreement, the MLC had the powers of a legitimate government on the portion of territory it controlled at the time, Busa said. Bemba was thus entitled to sign a deal with Ange-F\u00e9lix Patass\u00e9, the then President of CAR.<\/p>\n<p>Busa also told Radio Okapi that MLC militants were visiting Bemba in jail almost daily and that the party was 100% behind its leader.<\/p>\n<p>Bemba has been granted eight months to present his defense.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>RO\/ER\/GF<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kinshasa, September 4, 2012 (FH) -
