{"id":24580,"date":"2012-09-10T14:27:36","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T12:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/24580-100912-ictrgatete-appeals-chamber-to-deliver-judgment-in-gatete-case-on-october-9.html"},"modified":"2012-09-10T14:27:36","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T12:27:36","slug":"100912-ictrgatete-appeals-chamber-to-deliver-judgment-in-gatete-case-on-october-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/24580-100912-ictrgatete-appeals-chamber-to-deliver-judgment-in-gatete-case-on-october-9.html","title":{"rendered":"10.09.12 - ICTR\/GATETE - APPEALS CHAMBER TO DELIVER JUDGMENT IN GATETE CASE ON OCTOBER 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arusha, September 10, 2012 (FH) \u2013 The Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) will deliver its judgment in the appeal case of former Rwandan senior official, Jean-Baptiste Gatete, on October 9, 2012, according to a scheduling order.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the case, both the defence and prosecution have appealed against the judgment of the lower court delivered on March 29, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The ex- Director in the Ministry of Women and Family Affairs was convicted of genocide and extermination, as a crime against humanity and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was acquitted of crime of conspiracy to commit genocide.<\/p>\n<p>Judges heard the the appeal on May 7, 2012, with prosecution requesting additional conviction on the conspiracy count. According to the prosecution, the Trial Chamber erred in law and facts for not convicting Gatete of the offence because all ingredients were met.<\/p>\n<p>But the defence sought for acquittal of the convict on all counts for which he was found guilty, allegedly for lack of proof.
