Arusha, September 25, 2012 (FH) \u2013The High Court in Kigali Monday dismissed the appeal by Rwandan Pastor Jean Uwinkindi, challenging a lower court decision to deny him bail.<\/p>\n

Rwandan English daily, The New Times, quoted on Tuesday Judge Antoine Muhima as saying that Uwinkindi\u2019s appeal application lacked genuine reasons to warrant the bail sought.<\/p>\n
On August 29, 2012, the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court refused to grant him provisional release after considering the \u201cgravity of the facts allegedly committed and because of the risk that the accused would try to escape justice\u201d. The court remanded the accused for 30 days, as he waits his trial to begin.<\/p>\n
Uwinkindi, former pastor with the Pentecostal Church in Bugesera District, is charged with genocide and extermination. He is accused of encouraging and leading the killings of Tutsis in his Kayenzi parish during the 1994 genocide. <\/p>\n
He was arrested on June 30, 2010 in Uganda. On April 19, 2012, he became the first genocide suspect to be transferred by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to Kigali to face trial. He pleads not guilty to all the charges.<\/p>\n
