{"id":24894,"date":"2014-09-11T12:21:05","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T10:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/24894-110914-iccgbagbo-icc-confirms-trial-for-ivorian-ex-president.html"},"modified":"2014-09-11T12:21:05","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T10:21:05","slug":"110914-iccgbagbo-icc-confirms-trial-for-ivorian-ex-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/24894-110914-iccgbagbo-icc-confirms-trial-for-ivorian-ex-president.html","title":{"rendered":"11.09.14 \u2013 ICC\/GBAGBO \u2013 ICC CONFIRMS TRIAL FOR IVORIAN EX-PRESIDENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arusha, September 11, 2014 (FH) \u2013 The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday rejected a request from the defence of Ivorian ex-president Laurent Gbagbo for leave to appeal the confirmation of charges against him.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision confirming the charges is now final,\u201d says a statement from the Court. \u201cThe Pre-Trial Chamber ordered the Registrar to transmit the case record to the Presidency for constitution of a Trial Chamber, which will be in charge of the conduct of trial proceedings in the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gbagbo is charged with crimes against humanity committed during post-election violence in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire in 2010 and 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He was transferred to the ICC on November 30, 2011 and his first appearance was on December 5 the same year. Following confirmation of charges hearings from February 19 to 28, 2013, the pre-trial chamber adjourned the hearings and asked the Prosecutor to bring more evidence or conduct new investigations.<\/p>\n<p>The court then received additional elements of evidence and observations from the Prosecutor, to which the defence also responded.
