{"id":24929,"date":"2014-10-22T12:40:54","date_gmt":"2014-10-22T10:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/24929-221014-iccbemba-four-bemba-associates-get-interim-release.html"},"modified":"2014-10-22T12:40:54","modified_gmt":"2014-10-22T10:40:54","slug":"221014-iccbemba-four-bemba-associates-get-interim-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/24929-221014-iccbemba-four-bemba-associates-get-interim-release.html","title":{"rendered":"22.10.14 - ICC\/BEMBA \u2013 FOUR BEMBA ASSOCIATES GET INTERIM RELEASE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arusha, October 22, 2014 (FH) \u2013 The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday ordered the provisional release of four suspects close to Congolese Senator and former Vice-President Jean-Pierre Bemba, \u201cto avoid that the duration of the pre-trial detention become disproportionate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Jean-Pierre Bemba is on trial before the ICC for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in the Central African Republic (CAR) in 2002 and 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Cuno Tarfusser \u201cordered the release of Aim\u00e9 Kilolo Musamba, Jean-Jacques Mangenda Kabongo, Fid\u00e8le Babala Wandu and Narcisse Arido\u201d, says an ICC press release.<\/p>\n<p>The four men, along with Bemba himself, are accused of witness tampering and making false statements in Bemba\u2019s crimes against humanity and war crimes trial.<\/p>\n<p>Kilolo and Mangenda form part of Bemba\u2019s defence team in his ongoing trial. In this trial, Bemba is accused of bearing individual responsibility for crimes committed in the CAR by members of his MLC movement, which is now the second biggest opposition party in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n<p>Member of Parliament and MLC deputy secretary-general Babala Wandu was Bemba\u2019s private secretary when Bemba was Vice-President of the DRC from 2003 to 2006.
