{"id":30480,"date":"2016-11-03T17:10:02","date_gmt":"2016-11-03T16:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/30480-serbia-frees-second-detained-kosovo-albanian-lawyer.html"},"modified":"2016-11-03T17:10:02","modified_gmt":"2016-11-03T16:10:02","slug":"serbia-frees-second-detained-kosovo-albanian-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/30480-serbia-frees-second-detained-kosovo-albanian-lawyer.html","title":{"rendered":"Serbia frees second detained Kosovo Albanian: lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n             Belgrade on Thursday released a Kosovo Albanian whose arrest last week raised tensions between the former foes, prompting Pristina to advise its citizens not to travel through the neighbouring Serbian territory.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Hilmi Kelmendi's detention was \"called off,\" his lawyer Sead Spahovic said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            \"The prosecutor gave up the prosecution, so I expect (Kelmendi) to leave the detention facility in the coming hours,\" he told AFP.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            \"The case is dismissed.\"\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Kelmendi, 36, was arrested while travelling from Kosovo to Germany on suspicion of committing war crimes during the 1998-1999 conflict.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Kosovo's foreign ministry had described Kelmendi's arrest as \"unacceptable\" saying it threatened the \"many processes achieved during the dialogue for the normalisation of relations\" between the two.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The arrest was the second within a month, following that of senior Kosovo police chief Nehat Thaqi at the end of September.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            He was released on Monday after the prosecutor in Belgrade dropped the \"terrorism\" charges against him.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The arrests had increased tensions between Pristina and Belgrade, which have been strained since Kosovo unilaterally declared independence in 2008.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Serbia has refused to recognise the move and still considers the breakaway territory its southern province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Belgrade on Thursday released a Kosovo Albanian whose arrest last week raised tensions between the former foes, prompting Pristina to advise its citizens not to travel through the neighbouring Serbian territory.
