{"id":30524,"date":"2016-11-08T13:05:02","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T12:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/30524-israel-claims-blocked-palestinian-interpol-bid.html"},"modified":"2016-11-08T13:05:02","modified_gmt":"2016-11-08T12:05:02","slug":"israel-claims-blocked-palestinian-interpol-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.justiceinfo.net\/en\/30524-israel-claims-blocked-palestinian-interpol-bid.html","title":{"rendered":"Israel claims blocked Palestinian Interpol bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n             Israel claimed victory Tuesday in blocking a Palestinian bid to join the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The body's annual conference decided Tuesday to suspend the Palestinian bid, instead appointing an advisor to review the application and report back at the 2017 conference.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Membership bids from Kosovo and the Solomon Islands were also put on hold.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The Palestinians had been seeking to get their membership ratified at the annual meeting, which is being held on the Indonesian island of Bali.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            \"The Israeli ministry of foreign affairs together with the Israeli police... carried out an intensive global effort to thwart the Palestinian initiative,\" a foreign ministry statement said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            \"This vote is an accomplishment and a triumph of Israeli diplomacy, reflecting the positive change in Israel's standing in the international arena,\" it added.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            The Lyon-based Interpol currently has 190 member countries, enabling police across the globe to share information.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Palestine gained observer status at the United Nations in 2012 and since then has joined 54 international organisations and agreements, according to the Palestinian foreign ministry.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Among them are the International Criminal Court and the United Nations heritage body UNESCO.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            Israel has opposed such moves, delaying payments of taxes to the Palestinians after their 2015 ICC application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Israel claimed victory Tuesday in blocking a Palestinian bid to join the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).
