U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that he was ready to attack cultural sites in Iran in retaliation of any attack against American forces. Why is targeting cultural heritage a war crime? Frankly it\u2019s been a bit too much to keep on top of, and Stephanie admits to retreating to her couch to snuggle with her cats.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, we decided to peek our noses out, and bring you the first Justice Update of the year, looking at one small sliver of the maelstrom of the past few days \u2013 the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1213593975732527112?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">tweeted threat<\/a>\u00a0by Donald J. Trump to specifically target Iranian cultural sites in any conflict with Tehran.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"boorder: 1px solid #ccc;\"><span id=\"jsTweet1213593975732527112\" class=\"wp-block-embed wp-block-embed-twitter articleTweet\" tweetID=\"1213593975732527112\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_polinalevina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Polina Levina<\/a>, an international lawyer, whose\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/international-review.icrc.org\/articles\/protecting-cultural-property-syria-new-opportunities-states-enhance-compliance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">essay<\/a>\u00a0on Syrian cultural heritage and war crimes earned her a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asil.org\/community\/interest-groups\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">prize<\/a> last year, to help guide us through some of the key issues.<\/p>\n<p>There have been many many great takes by great international lawyers on what has been happening.
