Gbagbo remains under appeal from the prosecutor, who is asking for a retrial. Gbagbo and his co-accused Charles Bl\u00e9 Goud\u00e9 were acquitted last year of charges of war crimes for post-election violence in 2010 and 2011 in Ivory Coast after Gbagbo refused to accept his defeat at the polls. But instead of being unconditionally released ICC judges ordered that they be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-warcrimes-ivorycoast\/ex-ivory-coast-president-gbagbo-conditionally-released-to-belgium-court-idUSKCN1PU2ET\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">released under certain conditions<\/a> because the prosecution announced it would appeal the acquittal.<\/p>\n<p>The defence wants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ijmonitor.org\/2019\/10\/defense-lawyer-calls-for-gbagbos-unconditional-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">all restrictions lifted<\/a>, arguing that they violate the human rights of the defendants who were already acquitted.
