And now it\u2019s here. There were a few skirmishes along the way \u2013 remember how former president George W Bush <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/americas\/1970312.stm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unsigned<\/a> the Rome Statute? And the <a href=\"https:\/\/uslaw.link\/citation\/stat\/116\/820\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hague Invasion Act<\/a>? And when prosecutor Fatou Bensouda was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-icc-prosecutor\/u-s-revokes-icc-prosecutors-entry-visa-over-afghanistan-investigation-idUSKCN1RG2NP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">only allowed to travel to the US to attend the United Nations<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>But now, via an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Full-Text-Executive-Order-on-Blocking-Property-Of-Certain-Persons-Associated-With-The-International-Criminal-Court.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Executive Order<\/a>, the president Donald Trump, has turned the screws on this court \u2013 and anyone who provides it with support \u2013 that deals with individuals who commit genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression. It\u2019s no coincidence that this move comes as the court is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/Pages\/item.aspx?name=pr1516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">investigating<\/a> potential war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan which could lead to a look at CIA blacksites \u2013 check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asymmetricalhaircuts.com\/episodes\/episode-18-afghanistan-and-the-u-s-war-on-terror-with-katherine-gallagher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">podcast<\/a> with Katherine Gallagher.
