05.02.07 - ICTR/PROSECUTION - THE PROSECUTOR APPOINTED A SPOKESPERSON

   Arusha, February 5 2007 (FH) - The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), Hassan Bubacar Jallow (Gambia), has for the first time since he took office in September 2003 appointed a spokesperson, Timothy Gallimore (USA).   « It is the prosecutor’s choice », Mr. Gallimore told Hirondelle Agency on Monday. He hasn’t indicated when the decision had been made.     Gallimore, a specialist in media and communication, is going to work with the ICTR spokesperson and deputy registrar Everard O’Donnell (UK).   The tribunal is made up of three organs: the chambers (three trial chambers and an appeals chamber), the office of the prosecutor and the registry.   It has come to be a tradition at the ICTR that the tribunal’s spokesman, as the main contact with the media, tends to be more cautious when it comes to address issues which concern the office of the prosecutor.   Mr. Gallimore was until now working in the ICTR Press and Public Affairs Section, which is part of the registry.   He also used to be the ICTR spokesman before O’Donnell replaced him.   ER/AT/MG  © Hirondelle News Agency
