The majority of these witnesses testified in closed session in favour of the former prefect. This trial will resume on 18 June, and then will again be adjourned for a few days before resuming until 13 July.
In addition, in the trial called Government II, the cross-examination of Casimir Bizimungu, former Minister of Health, came to an end. The prosecution questioned, in particular, the evidence presented by the defendant attesting to his absence in Rwanda on precise dates.
In the trial Military II, it is another Bizimungu, Augustin, former Head of the Chief of Defense Staff, who continued to present his defense. The 19th witness is presently testifying. About thirty should still be called to testify.
In the Butare trial, which will celebrate Monday its sixth anniversary, it is the second to last accused who is testifying in his defense. Alphonse Nteziryayo, former prefect of Butare, should remain on the witness stand for a week before the last defendant, the former mayor, Joseph Kanyabashi starts to present his case.
