Nine other information and documentation centres will be established throughout the country.
According to the Registrar, these centres will not only be "a center for information for the population on the activities of the ICTR but also documentation, reinforcement of the capacities for the magistrates and the actors of justice in Rwanda".
Dieng said that the information available would also contribute to the construction of a new Rwandan society.
The cost of centres are 213 000 Euros (270 000 USD) financed by the European Union. The other centres to be opened will be in Gicumbi and Musanze, in the North Province, Muhanga and Nyamagabe, in the South Province, Karongi, Rubavu and Rusizi, West province, and Ngoma and Nyagatare, Eastern Province.
The initiative, which comes 14 years after the creation of the ICTR, will make it possible to fill the gaps of the population in regards to information on the ICTR and to the population and researchers, to have access to the legal documents", said Roland Amoussouga, Spokesperson of the Tribunal, during a press conference.
The project of information and documentation centres dates back to 2000, when the first Umusanzu mu bwiyunge Center was inaugurated in downtown Kigali. The center has a library with audio-visual, a reading room and a computer room with internet access.
