17.07.09 - RWANDA/GENOCIDE - RWANDA ‘ONE DOLLAR' CAMPAIGN RAISES OVER $ 10,000 IN ARUSHA

Arusha, July 17, 2009 (FH) - Rwandans living in Diaspora in Arusha have raised a total of US Dollars 10,500 for the construction of decent houses for orphans of the 1994 genocide under the "One Dollar" campaign.

Chairperson of the Arusha Chapter, Geraldine Umugwaneza, who is also the Deputy Registrar of East African Court of Justice (EACJ), told Hirondelle Agency Friday that another $ 7, 335 in pledges have yet to be collected. She was confident the amount would be collected by next week.

According to the Chairperson, the amount has been raised by Rwandans, friends and colleagues working in various institutions in Arusha including, the East African Community (EAC), African Court for Human and Peoples Rights and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).

 "We thank Rwandans in Arusha, colleagues and friends for this generous support," she added.
