According to the ICTR spokesman Roland Amoussouga, he should appear before a judge "very shortly".
Jean-Bosco Uwinkindi, born in 1951, hails from Kibuye prefecture (Western Rwanda). He is charged with conspiracy to commit genocide, genocide and extermination as a crime against humanity.
He was the minister of a Pentecostal church in Bugesera region in 1994. According to the indictment issued in September 2001, he led several attacks against Tutsis who had sought refuge in his own parish of Kayenzi.
« He hated the Tutsi stating that they were Inyenzi who occupied his country, and Hutu must resist them», the text reads.
It also states that "Pastor Uwinkindi led a group of killers, to look for and exterminate Tutsi, in particular Tutsi civilians from Kanzenze commune. The group lived at Kayenzi church".
"Pastor Uwinkindi went to the roadblock mounted before the Kayenzi church, then addressed" his group, "ordering them to prevent any Tutsi from passing through the roadblock".
Several Tutsis were then caught at the roadblock and taken to the nearby church where they were killed.
The accused is also alleged to have led a "hunting beat" to find Tutsis in the swamp.
