14.02.11 - ICTR/MILITARY I - BAGOSORA TO BE HEARD ON APPEAL ON APRIL 1ST

Arusha, February 14, 2011 (FH) -Théoneste Bagosora, the most famous prisoner at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) will be heard on Appeal on April 1st.

According to an ICTR ruling issued on Monday, former  Director of cabinet in the Ministry of Defence will speak before five Appeal judges.

Minister for Natural Disaster and Refugee Affairs Gen. Gatsinzi will testify during hearing of appeal by Bagosora as a Chamber's witness to shade lights on his superior responsibility between April 6 and 9, 1994.

Gatsinzi was appointed acting Chief of Staff of the armed forces on April 6, 1994. According to Bagosora, he was well placed to testify on the functioning of the army and on the chain of command from April 6 to 9, 1994.

Hearing of the appeals in colonel Anatole Nsengiyumva and Major Aloys Ntabakuze cases will also take place on March 30, March 31st and April 1st, a former ruling read.

The three men were sentenced to life in jail in December 2008 after being convicted with genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes of war .
