28.04.11 - FRANCE/RWANDA - POLITICS AND FOOTBALL ON RWANDAN MINISTER OF JUSTICE'S AGENDA IN PARIS

Paris, April 28, 2011 (FH) - Rwandan Minister of Justice Tharcisse Karugarama met on Thursday in Paris his French counterpart Michel Mercier, with whom he officially talked at a "political level" about Rwandan cases currently under investigation by the French judiciary.

According to the French Minister spokesperson, they brought up questions about "criminal cooperation and criminal cases linked to the genocide (...). However, the Minister was careful not to discuss contents of the cases, which come under the judiciary exclusively."

Tharcisse Karugarama and Michel Mercier had "a positive and straight conversation", said a counselor at the Rwandan Embassy in Paris.

During his trip to Paris, Rwandan Minister attended a football match between French U-17 and Rwandan "Amuvabis", the two national junior teams. The match was played on Thursday at Stade Clairefontaine (South-West of Paris).

Eighteen cases of genocide-suspects are currently under investigation at the Parisian lower court (TGI). No trial has started yet.
