03.02.12 - WEEKLY PREVIEW - BEMBA TRIAL CONTINUES BEFORE THE ICC NEXT WEEK

Arusha, February 3, 2012 (FH) - Hearing in the case of Jean-Pierre Bemba continues next week at the International Criminal Court (ICC), while there will be no trial at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) following the postponement of defence hearing for Augustin Ngirabatware.

Continuation of Bemba's trial: The prosecution is expected on Monday (February 6) to continue calling its witnesses in the trial of Jean-Pierre Bemba. The Congolese senator and leader of Movement for Liberation of Congo, is charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Central African Republic between 2002 and 2003.

ICTR

Ngirabatware trial postponed: There will be no trial at ICTR following the postponement side die of the only ongoing case at the fist instance involving former Rwandan planning Minister Augustin Ngirabatware. The accused, who is charged with conspiracy to commit genocide, genocide or in the alternative, complicity in genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, extermination and rape as crimes against humanity, is still presenting his defence case.
