10.02.12 - WEEKLY PREVIEW - PROSECUTION'S CASE IN BEMBA TRIAL CONTINUES NEXT WEEK BEFORE ICC

Arusha, February 10, 2012 (FH) - Hearing in the case of Jean-Pierre Bemba continues next week at the International Criminal Court (ICC), while there would be no trial at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), as the only ongoing case involving Augustin Ngirabatware is set to resume for defence hearing on February 20.

Continuation of Bemba's trial : The prosecution is expected on Monday (February 13) to continue calling its witnesses in the trial of Jean-Pierre Bemba. The Congolese senator and leader of Movement for Liberation of Congo is charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Central African Republic between 2002 and 2003.

ICTR

Ngirabatware trial : There will be no trial at ICTR next week as the only continuing case before the lower court involving former Rwandan Planning Minister Augustin Ngirabatware has been pushed to February 20. The accused, who is charged with conspiracy to commit genocide, genocide or in the alternative, complicity in genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, extermination and rape as crimes against humanity, is still presenting his defence case.
