03.08.12 - WEEKLY SUMMARY - ICTR HANDS OVER TO RWANDA TWO MORE CASES, GBAGBO’S CHARGES HEARING POSTPONED

Arusha, August 03, 2012 (FH) – The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) this week handed over to Rwandan authorities files of two more genocide fugitives whereas at the International Criminal Court the confirmation of charges hearing in the case of Lareunt Gbagbo was postponed.

Two more fugitive files handed over to Rwanda: The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) Wednesday handed over to the Rwandan authority in Kigali, files of two more genocide fugitives; Alloys Ndimbati and that of Charles Ryandikayo. Ndimbati was former mayor of Gisovu commune in Kibuye prefecture, Western Rwanda while Ryandikayo was a manager of a restaurant in Gishyita in the same prefecture.

Libya requests information on conduct of defence counsel: Libyan government Monday requested the International Criminal Court (ICC) to convene a status conference to clarify the status of investigation into the conduct of the Office of Counsel for Public Defence (OCPD) which assigned defence counsel for Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, wanted by ICC for crimes against humanity.

Gbagbo’s confirmation of charges hearing postponed: The confirmation of charges hearing in the case of former President of Côte d'Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo, has been postponed until the issue of his fitness to take part in the proceedings is resolved. The confirmation of charges hearing was initially scheduled on August 13, 2012.
