
We had a new round of US sanctions on individuals at the International Criminal Court. They included the court’s president judge Tomoko Akane. And the death of Ratko Mladic, former Bosnian Serb general, in The Hague who was convicted of genocide at the U.N. tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Also featured are two Dutch female icons that are big in Japan – Nijntje, the little rabbit of beloved childrens’ books, and The Girl with the Pearl Earring, one of Vermeer’s masterpieces, currently in Osaka.
