DEFENCE WITNESS GIVES EVIDENCE IN CLOSED SESSION

Arusha, January 17, 2003 (FH) - The eleventh defence witness in the trial of former Rwandan Minister for Higher Education Jean de Dieu Kamuhanda on testified entirely in closed session before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda on Thursday. The trial was adjourned to Monday after the witness named GPE for protection of her identity completed testifying.

Kamuhanda trial resumed on January 13, 2003. Kamuhanda is charged with eight counts including genocide, complicity in genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, including rape and murder. These crimes were allegedly committed in his native Gikomero commune (Kigali province, central Rwanda). The trial is before Trial Chamber II composed of Judges William Hussein Sekule of Tanzania (presiding), Arlette Ramaroson (Madagascar) Winston Churchhill Matanzima Maqutu (Lesotho).
