Mungwarakarama, 52, was found guilty of criminal conspiracy, complicity in the murder of several people in Nyakabanda (a district of Kigali), the death of Pastor Phocas Muligo and his pregnant wife, illegal firearm possession, installation and maintenance of a road block, breaking and entering, and looting.
In 1999, a conventional court had sentenced him to the same sentence.
He had then appealed. But following a legal amendment voted in 2008, his recourse had been transferred to a gacaca court of Nyakabanda.
Mungwarakarama has denied the charges, only admitting having been at a road block in possession of a rifle during the genocide.
