" ...Initial investigations indicates that this man committed acts of genocide in the area of Nyakizu (southern Rwanda) in April and May 1994 with an aim of eliminating partially or completely Rwandan Tutsis", Helsinki stated in an official statement from the Prosecutor, Raija Toiviainen.

The unnamed Rwandan was arrested six years after his arrival in Finland.

Finnish authorities did not reveal his identity, but according to Rwanda, the arrested person is Baptist Pastor François Bazaramba, who has denied any role in the genocide.

The Finnish government had refused in February an extradition request of the Rwandan authorities on grounds that he was likely not to get a fair trial in his country.
