At least 49 men and women from the media were killed from April to July 1994, according to Reporters Without Borders (RWB).

About sixty Rwandan journalists marched from downtown Kigali to the genocide memorial of Gisozi where they laid wreaths.

"We are here to do our duty to remember our colleagues killed during the genocide", stated at the occasion Gaspard Safari, President of the Rwandan Association of Journalists (ARJ).

"We plan to undertake a research on the level of our association to be able to know the exact number of men and women from the media killed during the genocide", he announced.

"Today we mourn our colleagues who were killed and deplore the behavior of journalists who, in one way or another, soaked in the genocide", he said.

He added that his association is thinking about a particular memorial project for journalists.
