The ICTR had in the past called for more vigorous efforts from the DRC to arrest the suspects.

Addressing the press on Saturday after holding a closed-door meeting with his Rwandan and DRC counterparts, Justice Jallow said:'' We are now satisfied that DRC is cooperating in tracking down these fugitives. We are hoping that they will be brought to justice soon".

Justice Jallow has maintained that most of the eleven most wanted suspects are holed up in the Eastern DRC, where they fled from the neighbouring Rwanda.

The ICTR Chief Prosecutor and his Rwandan and DRC counterparts, Martin Ngoga and Flory Kabange Numbi respectively, resolved during their meeting to adopt new strategy with the aim of arresting the suspects, added the pro-government newspaper.

The prosecutors were invited by Rwanda's Public Prosecutions Authority for its annual general assembly to evaluate the achievements of the institution and way forward in the new year.

The joint efforts of the UN Mission in DRC(MONUC), DRC and Rwanda helped to arrest two suspects-ex-Mayor Gregoire Ndahimana and former second in command of the Non-commissioned Officers School (Ecole des sous-officiers, ESO) in the southern town of Butare Ildephonse Nizeyimana -in a span of just three months between August and October, last year.

Nizeyimana, who was on his way to Kenya, was arrested in Kampala, Uganda, travelling under a false DRC passport. Ndahimana was arrested in North Kivu, DRC, as he was looking for some food within the local population.

The two have already appeared before the UN Court and have pleaded not guilty to 1994 genocide. The dates for their trials are yet to be fixed.
