08.06.10 - ICTR/RWANDA - ICTR PROSECUTOR HANDS OVER 25 INVESTIGATION CASES TO RWANDA

Arusha, June 8, 2010 (FH) - ICTR Chief Prosecutor Hassan Bubacar Jallow on Tuesday handed over to Rwanda Prosecutor office twenty-five investigation cases, Hirondelle News agency reports.

Thirty five similar files had already been transferred to Rwanda which intends to pursue the investigations and, should this happen, indict suspects and issue international arrest warrant against them.

Hassan Jallow also announced his intention to file "in the second half of the year" new requests to transfer before Rwandan justice eight suspects already indicted by the ICTR.

So far, ICTR judges have rejected five requests of this type, fearing that the defendants' defence would not be able to work in the same conditions as the prosecution in Rwanda.
