28.02.11 - RWANDA/SURVIVORS - IBUKA ELECTS A NEW PRESIDENT

Kigali, February 28, 2011 (FH) - The congress of the umbrella organization for Rwandan genocide survivors Ibuka elected on February 27 a new president, Jean-Pierre Dusingizemungu. He replaces Théodore Simburudari whose four years term had come to an end.

A psychologist teaching at the National University of Rwanda in Butare, Dr Dusingizemungu is a member of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG).

In an interview with Hirondelle News Agency, he stated as his goal to further tighten the links between Ibuka and genocide survivors. "That's where we have to solve problems", he said.

Ibuka's congress discussed the existence of homeless genocide survivors, of despoiled orphans and of genocidaires - perpetrators of massacres - who are not serving their sentences.
