25.10.11 - ICC/PROSECUTOR - FOUR CANDIDATES SHORTLISTED TO BE NEW ICC PROSECUTOR

The Hague, October 25, 2011 (FH) - The Search Committee for the position of Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court has shortlisted four candidates as possible successors to Luis Moreno Ocampo. The four are Fatou Bensouda of the Gambia (currently ICC Deputy Prosecutor), Andrew Cayley of the UK, Mohammed Othman of Tanzania and Robert Petit of Canada.

In a report presented at a special meeting in New York on Tuesday,  the Search Committee says it has selected the four from around 50 candidates submitted.

The ICC Assembly of States Parties will elect the new prosecutor from among the four when it convenes in New York from december 12 to 21, 2011. Moreno Ocampo's mandate expires at the end of June 2012.
